MUSCULAR TENSION

Many of us experience muscular tension, simply because of the trials and tribulations our bodies go through as part of everyday life.

Muscular tension is a condition in which muscles of the body remain semi-contracted for an extended period.

Occupational demands such as sitting for long periods at a computer, constantly using your arms and upper parts of the body, cleaning the house, sleeping in an awkward position or simply running after the bus can cause muscular tension.

Some of us experience tension because of emotional stress. An argument with a relative or friend or, pressure at work can cause a lot of stress that can affect the muscles, causing tension.

Physical activity such as exercising at the gym, lifting heavy grocery bags, cleaning the house or simply gardening can also lead to muscular tension especially if you don’t take the time to warm up appropriately.

These stressed muscles can feel very uncomfortable and can often lead to poor posture, and over time may cause more serious problems such as back, neck and shoulder pain or headaches if not addressed early on.

Muscular stress may include the followings sensations:

  • Tightness
  • Tension
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Spasms

Many people experience muscular tension as a stiff neck or soreness across the shoulders and find they can’t turn their head as they should be able to. Sometimes they can feel the tension going right up into their head, causing a headache. They may even find it difficult to work at the computer or drive for a long period without having their neck tension decreased.
